Understanding Fractions
A fraction represents a part of a whole. It consists of a numerator (top number, representing how many parts we have) and a denominator (bottom number, representing how many parts make up a whole).
Types of Operations
- Addition & Subtraction: Requires a common denominator. We find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the denominators.
- Multiplication: Simply multiply the numerators together and the denominators together.
- Division: Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal (flipped version) of the second fraction.
