Masonry Calculations

Estimating bricks accurately involves calculating the area of one brick plus the surrounding mortar joint.

Moderate Waste: 10% is recommended for shipping breakage and cut pieces at the end of walls.
Standard Brick: 8" x 2.25" (approx 7 bricks per square foot with a 0.5" joint).
Standard Block: 16" x 8" (approx 1.1 blocks per square foot).
